Activity:
Children need to learn to be kind and helpful to others. But learning to help doesn't have to be a drag. Make a game of it! Show your child pictures of each family member and have them choose one that they want to do something especially kind for that day. Have them tape the picture to a piece of paper with a message from you stating that they are going to do something kind for this person today. Do this each day with pictures of a different family member.

Activity:
Make copies of pictures of your children’s grandparents. Cut out the grandparents from the pictures and have your child use his/her creativity in gluing or taping the cutouts to any color of paper they want. If you have any glitter or paints or markers let your child use them safely to add extra decoration. Then have a small ceremony of hanging your child’s dried creation on their bedroom wall or behind their bed so that they can see their grandparents’ picture. This activity is especially useful if your children’s grandparents live far away and don’t get to see their grandchildren often. Make sure that your children know who the people in the pictures are so that they begin to learn the value of eternal family structure.

If your children are like most American children they have way too many items of clothing. For my toddler we've put, at the most, three or four items each of pants, shirts, underclothes... in her bins/drawers. The rest go in a bin on the closet shelve away from little hands but where mom can access it if she needs to. Now when my toddler gets dressed she can manage her clothes better and if she decides to empty the bins/drawers it's not an overwhelming task to have her pick up after herself.

The toddler age is the ideal time to stop the whining before the behavior becomes a habit. But this can be very hard to mommies and daddies to do. Kids whine because they want something. You want them them to be quiet so you give them what they want. Sound familiar? Start by not giving them what they want right away. If they have to wait a few more minutes for a toy on the shelf, they won't die. This is just one example. Look at what happens with you and your child and learn where you give in to his or her whining.

Get index cards and color them in with different colors (or buy colored index cards). Make two of each color. Have your toddler match the colors and place them in separate piles. Form more advanced toddlers, play a match game with the cards turned face down. This game not only teaches color recognition, but also patience (taking turns flipping over the cards to find a match).
